Fossils
Fossil trilobite on rock
These come in two species types: proteus or Phacops.
Each of these well preserved fossils has been carefully exposed from the rock to reveal some amazing detail. In many cases it is possible to actually see the individual cells of the compound eye.
They may be small but they show excellent detail. Something really special to treasure.
Trilobite fossil size: 20-30mm. Rock size: 45-60mm.
Trilobite (Calymene)
Length: 70-90mm
These trilobites fossils from Morocco are approximately 340 million years.
The name trilobite was derived from the fact that their bodies were comprised of three-lobes: head (cephalon), thorax (main body and tail (pygidium). This arrangement is can be see on modern-day insects and arthropods.
Trilobites are now extinct but were one the first creatures to swim in our ancient oceans. They were the first group of creatures to develop good eyesight.
Trilobites have always held a great fascination for fossil hunters. Perhaps it is because they look like a big woodlouse. There are many different species of trilobite and they can be found in marine palaeozoic rocks all over the world.
Ammonite in rock
15-20mm diameter
Fossiled ammonite found and prepared in Lyme Regis.
It is approximately 195 million years old (Jurassic) and the species is called promicroceras.
The ammonite has been revealed in its original rock.
Whilst the size of these ammonites we have to offer is fairly consistent, the size of the rock does vary.
The rock is usually between 5-10cm in size.
Ammonite Fossil
Ammonite (perisphinctes) Fossil
Whole ammonite (Jurassic) from the Mahjanga region in Madagascar.
These ammonites have a very distinctive ribbed shell.
Check out our Extra Large specimens. We only have a limited stock of these.
The large ones make a superb display piece.
Ammonite sliced pair
Sliced and polished fossil ammonite shell pairs. Found and prepared in Madagascar.
There are various species including perisphinctes and nautilus.
Age range between 200 to 160 million years.
Available in three sizes. Small (20mm), medium (30-35mm), Large (35-40mm)
Individual Ammonite Half
Diameter: 70-80mm
A top quality example of a Madagascan ammonite fossil.
The ammonite fossil has been sliced in to reveal the crystallized chambers and the cut surface has been polished.
The external shell surface has also been polished.
The diameter ranges from 8-9 cm.
Comes in a black presentation box and fact sheet.
Note: the actual specimen that you receive will differ slightly from the image but will be of comparable quality.
Iridescent Ammonite Fossil
These are really beautiful whole fossil ammonites from Madagascar.
The mother of pearl (made from the mineral aragonite) has been preserved.
Age range: between 200 to 160 million years.
Copal with insects
Copal is preserved tree resin which is up to 1 million years old.
Copal is considered to be "young" amber.
These top grade pieces have been polished so it is easy to see the
small insects and spiders which have become trapped when the resin
originally leaked from the trunk of a tree.
Origin: Madagascar
