- Our fossil hunts to do not require any previous experience and include an explanation of the geology plus guidance to show you where to look and how to identify the various fossils that are found.
- A moderate amount of walking is involved. Not suitable for children under 5 years. If you have any medical conditions or reasons that could make walking difficult, please contact us prior to booking.
- Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.
- Adults: £10, Children (under 16) £5.

Fossil Hunts
Lyme Regis Saturday 15th May 2010
Join us for a fossil hunt on the beaches of Lyme Regis, made famous by Mary Anning.
We will be looking for fossils in the 190 million year old Jurassic rocks known as the Blue Lias and Black Ven Marls. Total walking distance is about 1-2 miles.
Common fossils: Ammonites, bivalves (shells), belemnites, crinoids, plants.
Rare fossils: Bones and vertebrae of Ichthyosaur and plesiosaurs, fish
The day will begin with a talk about the rocks and fossils of the area.
Bring good shoes for walking, waterproof clothing and some food.
Hammers and chisels are optional and must be used with protective glasses/goggles.

Quantoxhead (Somerset) Saturday 29th May 2010
Join local geologist Bill Verkaik on a prehistoric tour of this famous stretch of Jurassic coast in Somerset. Quantoxhead has yielded some of the largest and best preserved ammonites and marine reptiles in the country.
The day includes an introduction to the geology and fossils of the area, followed by a guided fossil hunt along the coast. Everyone will have an opportunity to find a variety of fossils.
Suitable for all ages and levels of experience, including families.

Charmouth (Dorset) SUNDAY 4th July 2010
Join us for a fossil hunt on the beach at Charmouth.
We will be looking for fossils in the 190 million year old Jurassic rocks known as Black Ven Marl and the Blue Lias. Total walking distance is about 1.5-2.5 miles.
Common fossils: Ammonites, bivalves (shells), belemnites, crinoids, plants.
Rare fossils: Bones and vertebra of Ichthyosaur and plesiosuars, fish
The day will begin with a talk about the rocks and fossils of the area.

Seatown (Dorset) Saturday 28th August 2010
Join geologist Bill Verkaik on a guided fossil hunt along the Jurassic Coast.
This trip will lasts for 3-4 hours and involves walking a total
distance of about 2.5 km along the beach. Seatown is a great place to
find fossils in The Belemnite Marls and The Green Ammonite Bed of the
Lower Jurassic (approx age: 180 million years).
Other fossils to be found include: sea urchins, bivalves, ichthyosaur vertebrae (rare).
The day will begin with a talk about the rocks and fossils of the area.
